An multidisciplinary dance theater work
exploring memory, mental illness, and the
inheritance of trauma.
Choreographed and directed by: Madi Hicks

Fusing choreography with dramatic narrative, Is Margo Mad? is a story of generational trauma, mental health, and having the courage to forgive. When a single mother signs up for a mysterious medical trial, her children come face to face with the past they never knew—and the future that could be. The work unfolds as a multidisciplinary performance, weaving movement, text, sound, and design into a psychologically immersive world.
The audience is placed inside Margo’s mind as she relives formative memories—childhood, marriage, motherhood, rupture—rendered through an evolving physical language that reveals inherited patterns. Simultaneously, her adult children navigate the present, racing to understand her decision and its consequences.
The scenography blends hospital architecture with pieces of domestic memory and projected imagery, creating a layered sense of time and place. “Is Margo Mad?” examines how generational trauma is embodied, transmitted, and, perhaps, transformed.
